GRASS VALLEY, Nevada County — October 26, 2026. Nevada County supervisors have approved purchasing the Stagecoach Motel off South Auburn Street for $934,000 as part of a plan to convert the property into 16 permanent supportive housing units. The county announced its action October 22.
Homes for people facing homelessness, including veterans
Officials say 10 apartments are intended for veterans experiencing homelessness, while the full project would have 16 units plus an on-site manager arrangement. The county has received nearly $5.9 million in Homekey+ funding through California’s voter-approved Proposition 1 resources to rehabilitate the property.
The county plans to work with AMI Housing on property management. When completed, residents are expected to have access to case management, mental-health and housing services, life-skills instruction and peer support.
Funding versus finished apartments
At present, the motel is a planned conversion. The county says construction is expected in coming months. It would be inaccurate to present 16 units as ready to lease today or to promise admission to any particular applicant. The county has also begun outreach to nearby property owners about the project.
For future eligibility and referrals, residents should follow official county and project-operator announcements.
