GRASS VALLEY / NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — November 5, 2026. Nevada County’s election canvass is far from complete, even though election-night figures already show leaders in local contests. A November 5 election office update, reported by YubaNet, put 29,155 ballots counted on election night and 18,650 ballots still awaiting processing. These figures are a dated status report, not a newly released November 6 count.

What is in the remaining ballot workload?

The breakdown lists 16,500 mail ballots received on or before Election Day, 450 arriving afterward within the legal receipt period, 50 forwarded from other counties, 50 provisional ballots, 350 conditional-registration provisional ballots, and 1,250 damaged or otherwise review-dependent ballots. Another 304 ballots need signature or other correction under the county’s cure procedures. These categories should not be added indiscriminately to overall turnout: the correction figure is a separate status count.

Why local races could change

Even elections with all precincts reporting election-night totals can move when valid mail and provisional ballots are processed. Nevada County’s close contests include Grass Valley City Council and school, utility and special-district elections. The county’s remaining ballot count is not a projection of how any candidate will perform.

What comes next?

The elections office planned its next unofficial results release for Friday, November 6, in the afternoon. It also scheduled a public 1% manual ballot tally for November 12 at 9 a.m. at the Ballot Processing Center, 12740 Loma Rica Drive, Grass Valley. A manual tally is a normal post-election audit and not proof of an identified irregularity.
